On 29 September, Externa Soluciones was officially accredited by ENAC to carry out product audits. The scope of the accreditation covers the certifications of the RETRAY scheme and the EN 15343 standard. Externa Soluciones thus becomes the first entity accredited by ENAC to certify the RETRAY scheme.
At the same time that ENAC has approved the accreditation of Externa Soluciones as a Certification Body, our previous accreditation as an Inspection Body has been automatically withdrawn. This is due to ENAC’s requirement that the evaluation activities aimed at certifying the RETRAY schemes and the EN 15343 standard must be carried out under the requirements of ISO/IEC 17065 (Certification Bodies) instead of under those of ISO/IEC 17020 (Inspection Bodies).
The RETRAY schemes aim to consolidate a circular economy model in the PET thermoformed packaging value chain by quantifying the recycled content and verifying its recyclability. In addition, they are based on the EN 15343 standard, which means that certification under these schemes is valid to justify exemptions from payment of the tax on non-recycled plastic established by the Waste Law.
The accreditation obtained by Externa Soluciones also covers the EN 15343 standard. Unlike the RETRAY schemes, which are only applicable to products made from PET, the EN 15343 standard is applicable to PET as well as other plastic polymers (PE, PP, PVC, PS, etc.). This standard makes it possible to declare the percentage of recycled content that a plastic product includes in its composition. The certification of this declaration by a Certification Body such as Externa Soluciones allows companies to deduct all or part of the aforementioned tax.
